The first tea harvests in Argentina occurred at the end of World War II. The plantations are located in the northern regions, close to Brasil: 90% are in the « Misiones » District (same as for Maté) and 10% in the « Correntes » District. The climatic conditions are mediocre for the cultivation of tea (from October to April). 100% of the production is oxidized, orthodox, broken leaf teas. 90% is destined for export and are mostly used in « flagship » products of leading brands. Annual production is approximately 70 000 and 90 000 tons.
