The first plantations surrounding Taipei are located only several kilometers from the capital. These tea plantations are situated in the south and east of the capital on low altitude mountains, particularly in Pin Lin. The Taipei/Pin Lin district is the center of tea history in Formosa: the oldest and most representative teas are found here. The Pouchong (or Bao Zhong) has been produced here for about 130 years! Also referred to as the « light oolong » (most probably because it is very lightly oxidized) it reminds us of numerous green teas such as the Tai Ping Hou Kui from Anhui, for example. The Pouchong is a tea with developed flowery notes (gardenia, jasmine) and pastry (butter, cream) taste. If aged a bit, vegetable notes might become apparent
