On the east coast of the island, surrounding the town of Ruisui is located the Hua-Lien district. The plantations are located at the conjuncture of two rivers: Hongye River and Xiuguluan River. The red-black teas produced here have pronounced honey and peach flavours due to the large amount of grasshoppers who feed themselves of the tea leaves which in turn absorb the saliva of the grasshoppers. This area also produces high quality oolong such as the qingxin, jinxuan and jade.
