Situated in the center of the island between 1600 and 2000 meters the Nuwara Eliya district makes one think of an oval circus. The region is dominated by a town carrying the same name and located at 1902 meters. Overlooking the town is the highest mountain of the region, the Pidurutalagala. The tea plantations of this region are some of the most magnificent. Despite the small number of plantations, the quality is present. The teas of this region are associated with a particular scent. Surrounded by cypress, eucalyptus and wild mint the tea is recognized by its flowery, fresh any springy notes. The leaves are a lighter green that elsewhere and have golden highlights. It’s these « blooms » which are characteristic of the high quality first flush teas.
